Aardman and Ebury Announce the Launch of Gromit Autobiography 'Grand'
‘It’s time I spoke’: Gromit finally breaks his silence, publishing his memoir as told to Nick Park, the four-time Oscar® winner and creator of Wallace & Gromit.
In his first ever book, Gromit presents his never-before-told life story. Famously the world's most intelligent, well-read but also mute dog, the book is the first time the world will have heard directly from Gromit himself. Readers will learn what it's like to wear Techno Trousers, his true feelings about gnomes, and what the moon tastes like.
Told with utmost candour, Grand promises a fresh perspective on the much-loved adventures of Wallace & Gromit, along with a brand-new escapade. Gromit’s been bottling everything up for a long time. And the time has come to spill the beans.
“Yes. I’m a dog. And you’re reading a book written by a dog.
Which of us is the odder? I guess we’ll just have to get used to it.
Now, this is supposed to be Wallace’s story. And maybe, at some point, he’ll finish building the machine he was going to write this book with. Currently he’s stood on top of the dining table and wondering why he fitted a typewriter with wheels and a flame-thrower (we made an agreement for new inventions – there’s even a list on the fridge, and 'No Flame-Throwers' is at Number 3).
Until then, this is my story. The tale of what goes on behind my eyes. And I really do know where all the bones are buried. So. I guess it’s time I spoke.”

Nick Park said: “I’m very excited to announce that Wallace’s faithful, and rather more intelligent, pooch Gromit, has decided to break silence, put pen to paper, paw to keyboard and share with the world some of his innermost thoughts and feelings. He tells of their life and loves, their affections and afflictions, their pet hates and fur-vent passions, and his book promises to be a deep dish of doggy nuggets and wisdom to chew on. And altogether a right riveting read.”
To celebrate, Nick Park will be doing a special pre-publication event ‘An Evening with Nick Park: The Wrong Trousers and Other Stories’ with Fane at Barbican Hall on Wednesday 14 October. Tickets go on general sale on Friday 19 June at 10am and are available from www.fane.co.uk/nick-park.
